Big Deltarune News!!!
Very short blog since this is just a summary of the recent DELTARUNE newsletter that was sent out, and I doubt anyone besides me cares to read about it lol.
With the recent release of the summer edition of the DELTARUNE newsletter (recent as in yesterday lol), we received some information regarding the progress of the development of the upcoming chapters 3 & 4, which are releasing together. While there wasn't any indication of a concrete release date, the development team did say that they are more or less done with the actual creation of the chapters, and are now working on the release of these chapters, which they say will take a while.
Though they said that the production of the chapters is done, there's still a ways to go in terms of preparing the chapters for release. The following steps to release these chapters were outlined on this page of the DELTARUNE website.
To summarize quickly, they're waiting for a couple of things to go through. First, they're waiting for GameMaker (the game engine that runs DELTARUNE) to release a new updated feature created specifically for the DELTARUNE team, which would allow them to run each chapter as its own game while not literally forcing the player to install and run seven individual games. I'm no game developer so I can't pretend to fully understand this function, but it sounds like its targeting optimization issues and lag in the player experience, so I'm happy they're addressing this!
Additionally, they still have to port over DELTARUNE onto console platforms (think PlayStation, Xbox, etc.). Despite being a primarily computer-based game, its clear that Toby and the rest of the DELTARUNE team have bigger plans for the overall game, and so it makes sense that they'd want to branch out onto other gaming platforms to expand the game's influence and make it more accessible to players.
Finally, Toby Fox has also stated previously that he has a desire to release a Japanese translated version alongside the English release, to pay homage to his Japanese fans and influences. While it's not as easy as simply copy and pasting everything into Google Translate (my own experiences with translating my writing have taught me this), it won't be super time consuming. Considering these three subjects, I'd estimate there's at least half a year's worth of work left.
But regardless of this, it's still very exciting to hear that we are so close to two new chapters of DELTARUNE releasing! It's a little crazy to imagine that the amount of content we have will be DOUBLED very soon! Taking everything that they said into consideration, I'm pretty optimistic for a 2025 release date for Chapters 3 & 4 of DELTARUNE. I'm so excited to see what's coming soon!!
