Obligatory Thanksgiving Post

Image
Just needed a thumbnail for this blog lol       After the last few blog posts about Arcane, I'm super tired out from writing! Across the three posts, I have written just over 7000 words, which is more than I've written so far for my college classes this semester so far...      Regardless, I thought it would be nice to take a break from writing super long think pieces for a minute, and instead just enjoy being with my family for Thanksgiving. It's only been a few months since I was last here, but so much had changed, with several rooms being rearranged, the house being decorated for Christmas, and way less snacks than I remembered in the fridge! Spending time with family has become more and more important as time has passed for me, since while before I'd spend all of my time with family and then seeing my friends occasionally, the tables had turned, with my friends being the norm and my family being the occasional visit.     As corny as it sounds, ...

Arcane Season 2 Act 3: Stumbling on the Landing

Image
This blog post will be discussing spoilers for Arcane Seasons 1 & 2. I am writing this after watching the entirety of Season 2 in order to have a better informed opinion on the series as a whole, though I will only be discussing a specific Act in this blog. Enjoy reading!     Finally, after years of waiting and a couple of weeks to build hype, the much awaited conclusion of Arcane was finally upon us. While it may have hiccupped here and there, Arcane had remained as an unquestionably good show, illustrating what could be done with an adaptation of an IP as well as inspiring a new generation of artists with its striking visuals and art style. However, following a weak second act for its final season, I was forced to ask an uncomfortable question:  Has Arcane lost its sauce?      In spite of my strong attachment and love for the first act of the season, the second installment of the season had let me down somewhat. Its se...

Kudzu Launch !!!

Image
It is often said that the fruits of one's labor provide the sweetest reward, and sure enough, the reward of finally finishing this semester of work on the Kudzu Review was worthwhile. For some months, I had been working at the esteemed Kudzu Review undergraduate publication, which I talk more about in this blog post . However, I won't reiterate what I've already discussed about the work processes, instead, I'd like to talk about how I feel at the end of my first stint working as an editor, and everything I've gained from participating at Kudzu.     As strange as it sounds to say (or write) out loud, I don't think I've ever had the same amount of satisfaction from working on a larger group project with people. Granted, the scale of a literary publication is a little out of the realm of just a "group project," but even during some of the bigger events I've contributed to, like my brief stint working in technical theater to put on musicals, I...

Arcane Season 2 Act 2: The Side Quest

Image
This blog post will be discussing spoilers for Arcane Seasons 1 & 2. I am writing this after watching the entirety of Season 2 in order to have a better informed opinion on the series as a whole, though I will only be discussing a specific Act in this blog. Enjoy reading!     While I thoroughly enjoyed Season 2 Act 1, the hype had only built up further in the week leading up to the second act's release. Act 1 had answered lingering questions from the first season, and had introduced new storylines and questions for audiences to ask, but with the benefit of having a much shorter wait between answers being reached than before. Having said this, I was super interested in seeing how character dynamics like Ambessa and Caitlyn's fascist partnership would develop, or what had happened to the three scientists after being zapped by the wild rune, and most importantly, the hyped-up reveal of Warwick, a character that had been getting teased throughout end...

Arcane Season 2 Act 1: A Strong Start

Image
This blog post will be discussing spoilers for Arcane Seasons 1 & 2. I am writing this after watching the entirety of Season 2 in order to have a better informed opinion on the series as a whole, though I will only be discussing a specific Act in this blog. Enjoy reading!     After a little over three years of anticipation, the much-awaited second and final season of Arcane had big shoes to fill to make up for the legendary first installment in the series. In the time between the release of season 1 and 2, I have gone from a League hater to a League addict, and as a result, I have learned much more about the lore and world of Arcane/Runeterra, making me more invested in how certain stories would turn out in season 2. Having said this, I went into watching this season (with Wade) with high expectations, an open mind, and a ton of excitement. But did Arcane season 2 deliver on the hype?     Short answer: Act 1 absolutely did. If I had to describe the three f...

The Kudzu Review Experience

Hey! This year I had decided that one way or another, I would finally push myself out of my comfort zone and make an effort to participate in extracurriculars and college organizations, since I was kind of a shut-in during my freshman year. With the new year, many changes had occurred to my life, and I figured that if there was ever a time to put myself out there and make new friends and connections, it would be now. So, over the summer, I had submitted an application to the Kudzu Review, which was an undergraduate literary magazine that I had heard good things about and read about during the year before. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the application process, but by the end of the summer I had received a decision: I would be an assistant editor for the fiction department in Fall 2024!     My role at Kudzu was simple: each week I'd be assigned a batch of short stories to read, review, and critique, and every Tuesday we would meet and discuss them ...

The Worst Interview Ever

I like to think as myself as a relatively well-put together guy, and if not that, at the very least organized and a little lucky. However, sometimes life likes to throw me a little reminder that I am not that guy  to the extent I hope I am, and these little reminders mess me up for a day or two. Today was one of those days.     For a while now, I have been drumming up some excitement over my potential job next year as an Engage 100 Undergraduate Leader, or in layman's terms, a teacher for a freshman introductory class. I was first considered for the role a few months ago, and when I was offered an interview, I gladly accepted! Not only would it be a good resume filler, but it'd also allow me to explore the possibilities of academia and teaching as a future career choice, which I talk more about in this blog post.     On the day of the interview, I had prepared myself well: I was well dressed, planned on showing up a bit early, and had rehears...

Talloween

Image
One of the greatest traditions of FSU has been the infamous "Talloween"- a celebration that has so much partying, people come from all over the country to visit and attend the houseparties and club experiences. I had a few friends over last year for it, and this year was no different, with my buddies Sebi and Jaime stopping by Tallahassee for a weekend together. However, with Halloween falling in the middle of the week this year, the party organizers decided we would have two Talloweekends, meaning double the parties, double the costumes, and double the fun.     Unfortunately, most of my friends couldn't make it to the first Talloweekend. However, this didn't dampen my spirits, because Wade and I had a funny idea for a duo costume, and we went to a party with our Tally friend group. During the first month of the semester, Wade and I had bought matching Frog and Toad shirts (Frog and Toad being from a popular children's book) and therefore we were inspired ...
