Big Deltarune News!!!

Image
Very short blog since this is just a summary of the recent DELTARUNE newsletter that was sent out, and I doubt anyone besides me cares to read about it lol.     With the recent release of the summer edition of the DELTARUNE newsletter (recent as in yesterday lol), we received some information regarding the progress of the development of the upcoming chapters 3 & 4, which are releasing together. While there wasn't any indication of a concrete release date, the development team did say that they are more or less done with the actual creation of the chapters, and are now working on the release of these chapters, which they say will take a while.     Though they said that the production of the chapters is done, there's still a ways to go in terms of preparing the chapters for release. The following steps to release these chapters were outlined on this page of the DELTARUNE website .     To summarize quickly, they're waiting for a couple of things to g...

Peace In Nature

Image
Hey! As of late, I've found myself spending less time writing and more time outside going on my runs and walks. While it's easy to attribute my recent adventures to my desire to get more fit and exercise more, I think I've also come to realize exactly how much I enjoy spending time in nature and greenery!      I've known that I like nature for many years now, since I always end up feeling some urge to go exploring in a park or forest, either with friends or alone. And for the longest time, I would attribute my enjoyment of nature to the trees that surrounded me. When I first got my glasses to fix my eyesight way way back in like third grade, I remember the first thing I was amazed to see with clear vision were the trees in the parking lot of the optometrist. The memory of being shocked at how I could see each individual leaf dancing in the wind, instead of the blurry green blob I was accustomed to seeing, was impressive enough to me that I still remem...

How Did We Get Here?

Image
Hello! The other day I had been thinking about how lately, my life has fallen into a sort of routine for the last few weeks. I wake up late, have lunch with my family, go upstairs to either watch some YouTube or play a game, eat with my family again, go on a run, then dinner and watch something with my family, ending my night with playing games with my friends till late into the night. I don't mind the pattern, I've always liked operating under some routine, but I started thinking about each segment of my day, and how I've gotten there.     Obviously, spending time with my family has been ingrained in my life since I was born, and that commitment to family hasn't wavered for nearly two decades at this point (holy shit how am I almost 20). Then my running / exercise habits have been a more recent addition to my schedule, as a result of freed up time and a desire to work on myself, like I've mentioned in previous blogs . Since I've already talked about my fa...

What Makes Homelander Such An Effective Antagonist?

Image
Hello! I'm going to keep it real with you, I've been grasping at straws for blog topics to write about, so that's led me to lean back and rely on past media that I've consumed to talk about and maybe analyze a little bit. And since I recently finished the new season of Amazon's "The Boys" a week ago, I figured it'd be an interesting idea to revisit the show and talk about probably the best character to come out of it: Homelander.     But first, a quick refresher course: If you're not tapped into the world of "The Boys", it's essentially a 'what-if' scenario where the show explores how the existence of superpowered beings would impact our real world. While it isn't the first show that tries to tackle this idea (you see this concept reflected in modern Marvel movies or more grounded superhero movies like The Batman), I think the way that the show interprets this prompt, establishing superheroes as no more than corporat...

Deltarune & Control

Image
Hello! I was at a little of a loss for what to write a blog post about this week, but I ended up having a conversation with a friend the other day about Deltarune and it got me thinking about today's topic of discussion, the themes of control and freedom in Deltarune. This won't be some crackpot theory like my previous Deltarune posts, but instead a textual analysis of the game's metanarrative and commentary about determinism and independence, so expect a lot more English major-y stuff in this post.     Since I know most people reading this aren't familiar with Deltarune, here's a quick refresher: You play as Kris, a human who befriends the school bully, Susie, and goes on adventures in pocket dimension "dark worlds" in order to seal fountains of darkness to prevent the pocket dimensions from spreading. While this covers the general plot of Deltarune (at least according to the first two installments of the series), there lies deeper storylines and co...

Running Away From Problems

Hello! This will be a slightly shorter post since there isn't too much to talk about... As I discussed in my previous post, I've been taking a few extra measures to take care of myself, mentally and physically. While I had been practicing more mental health exercises, I realized that I was missing... normal exercises? I felt like if I really wanted to dedicate the next few weeks towards self-improvement, I'd have to start doing a dreaded activity... working out.     I decided to start running more often since it's always been the type of exercise I respect the most (and think is the most useful). While it's nice to lift and stuff, improving my stamina and endurance through running felt the most attractive to me, and it also came with the benefit of not costing a dime! Plus, going on runs or walks everyday would be a nice excuse to spend time outside every day, listening to music, and staying off screens.     The first day was ROUGH. I didn't real...

Finding Inner Peace

Hello! Recently this week I've been trying a few different ways of taking care of myself (which I wasn't doing before, apparently) in an effort to focus on my health, both mentally and physically. Today I'm going to focus on my mental health efforts, and at the end of this week I'll talk about my physical health!     I can get very anxious or stressed out often. And while it's always a part of everyone's life, lately I've felt that my mental health, for one reason or another, has taken a bit of a plunge. In the last few weeks, I've faced rejection from every job I've applied to, I got out of a nearly two year relationship, I got rejected from the honors program I really wanted to get into, and I haven't had the opportunity to see any of my friends from home, since they're all out of town or busy. This has all piled up to really weigh down on me mentally, since loneliness and failure typically aren't known to make people super happy....

My Thoughts On Godzilla Minus One

Ever since the film came out nearly a year ago, Godzilla Minus One  has made splashes in the film community (which is what I call my movie nerd friends). However, despite always saying that I'd get around to it, I just never found time for it. It seemed like a shame that despite all of the praises and critical acclaim the film received, I never watched it, so this weekend I decided to wake up early and check out what all the fuss was about!     Immediately off of the opening, I knew that everything I heard about this movie was deserved. I came into this watching experience expecting a monster movie- a good one, but still a monster movie at its core. And the issue you always see with monster movies is spending too much time with two-dimensional boring human characters, since the plot needs to be moved forward by someone who can actually talk. However, this issue isn't present in this film, instead presenting human characters with stories so compelling t...

Visiting The NSU Art Museum

Image
If you've read the last few blog posts, then you would know that I've been pretty sick recently, to a point where I haven't left the house in DAYS.  That sort of isolation isn't really healthy, mentally anyways. So naturally, I've been itching  to get out of the house and do things, go places, and see people. And seeing as how my sickness has been dying down lately, I figured I would shoot my friend Isa to go check out an art exhibit (since the rest of my friends are uncultured swines). Since I'm not the most artsy person, I asked Isa which museum nearby would be interesting to visit, and once he suggested the NSU Art Museum at Fort Lauderdale, we just arranged a time to meet up and explore the art exhibitions together! That, Kenneth Noland (1958)     I should probably mention that the main exhibition that we checked out, "Glory of The World: Color Field Painting" was there for a limited time only, and so if you do end up going to the museu...
